Over 30 Agel Team Members from Kuala Lumpur, the capital of Malaysia, recently came together for a very special AgelCares event.
“The Team Members in our area understood that when you are a member of Agel, you are a member of AgelCares,” said Agel’s General Manager of Malaysia Sunny Ooi. “They wanted to do something as a team to help people in need right here in our own community.”
Through contacts, Sunny, Malaysian Diamond Directors Raymond Tay and Chan Sin Mun, and the Agel Kuala Lumpur team identified a village of over 30 Aborigine families in need of basic supplies and medical care. The Oran Asli Settlement is slightly more than an hour’s drive from the city.
In preparation for their visit to the settlement, Malaysian Team Members raised money from friends and colleagues to purchase rice, flour, sugar, biscuits and other foodstuffs, plus basic medical supplies. Then they traveled with their families to the settlement to personally deliver the provisions.
Agel Double Diamond Directors Chad Chong and Nattida Puranaputra were in town for an Agel event and came along with Sunny, Raymond, Mun, and the rest of the group. “It was very much an Agel family event,” said Sunny.
The Team Members spent the afternoon singing songs and playing with the children in the village. They distributed the food, taught basic hygiene and cleaning techniques and even performed basic medical checkups.
Two members of the team are doctors. Dr. Rupen is a specialist at a private hospital in Kuala Lumpur and Dr. Sivanes is a General Practitioner operating his own clinic. The two of them examined both children and adults from the settlement, tended to basic needs, gave advice, and distributed deworming syrup, panadol, ointments, plasters, and other basic medicines that the Kuala Lumpur team had purchased.
All in all, it was an incredibly successful event and a moving experience that those involved will never forget. Kudos to the Agel team in Malaysia for grasping the importance that the AgelCares mission has to the Agel community and making a difference to families right in their own back yard.
